Illustration by David Camp Mudra is a Sanskrit Term for "Opening". Oprah calls it the "Ah ha" moment, and we all experience this at some point in our life. It is a peek behind the obstructions of our life through to the treasures hidden in our consciousness. The Paradox of Mudra is curious. Because what created the NEED for Mudra is so often a NEED in itself. It is so often our own unrealized desire. Think of a child reaching out for the bottle, and imagine all of its thoughts concentrated on getting it. If the child does NOT get what it desires, the thoughts close up into a dark shadow of desire, a NEED. This is like a Black Hole which seeks to suck all into itself. If we could view the Body of Consciousness, the ENERGY that is ourselves, we could imagine it to be like a thousand points of awareness. Everything runs in cycles, and every thought and feeling has its own separate existence within us. They all have "magnetic" charges that push and shove against each other, until they form a universe of being within us. This "Star Field" of thought and emotion is revolving like a huge cosmic clock. At certain points, there is an alignment, and a doorway opens. The "Key" is provided by circumstance, and you have a choice to make. Step through, and a whole new state of consciousness awaits. Or stay. But how do we get to this point of awakening? How do we move through an "etheric "doorway"? It is not so easy. Most of us have calcified patterns and mind locks that keep us from even seeing openings when they occur ... the infamous "blind Spot" in the heart. And so rarely move past our own self created prisons of thought. We sweat the small stuff, calling it important, and call that brief glimpse to the stars a dream, a vision, an unfulfilled and stupid hope. We are the ones who keep us from ourselves. We have many blocks of thought that COULD have created a stairway to heaven, but instead we have protected our little passions and needs and created the walls of our prison. Yet there is a doorway if we can find it. Here is the SECRET ... In the middle of all these self created blocks we have constructed a way IN ... That's also where the EXIT is. The keystone of the arch of logic and belief that imprisoned us is paradoxically right above the very opening we seek ... This is what the Tibetans call the Mudra. A natural opening or DESIRE in our consciousness has become calcified and cemented until it became a "Mind Lock". Our own needs and unfulfilled desires have imprisoned us. Bhudda said "Let go of Desire" The Bagwan said "Embrace your Desire" All paths and teachings are ways we seek to UNLOCK us from our personal, introverted space. Logic works for some, Love for others. But unless you find and walk through the doorway you used to create your problems, you will never find your freedom. Thus the SHADOW of Jung's psychiatry becomes the doorway. The repressed and hidden aspects of persona become the release. This is the Universal Paradox: The very cornerstone of what "locks us up" is also the Rosetta Stone to our freedom. Learning how to open that hard, locked space is quite a task yet when we do so many things will open us to us. Obviously, we are here to sell our CD's. Addendum: We all have these "Locks" to some degree. They are the result of our most stubborn karmic ties, and they can take many lifetimes to release. However, feedback tells us that listening to the Harmonic Healing CD can help us get through these "Energy Blocks" much more quickly. Virtually all of our natural problems are, in essence, locked energy. All our pain is simply energy signatures that have become frozen, and when new life wants to flow in that area, we feel the stiff non-response of the past arise. The result is what we call pain. If we were completely "free form" or random in our approach to life we would be more like the children playing in the fields ... The question is: What reverses this pattern of freedom? If you look at children you quickly notice something. Kids really only get upset when they don't get what they want... This is where the Mind Lock starts to form ... From the position of need and the subsequent grasping to fulfill need. We feel a doorway to an energy we desire, but the patterns of our life won't necessarily conform and provide an easy avenue for us to walk down in order to reach our dream... So we start to work towards getting what we want. It is perfectly natural, and part of the experience of Planet Earth, but what happens is people start to incorporate a FEAR into the natural desire to move to a better space. This is when we start to calculate HOW to get what we want, and we tend to start working the space around us to get to the next level... We work the field, in simple speak, to get what we want. When we DON'T get what we want, the "mind beams" of want wrap back around us, cocooning us in our needs. This manipulating of energy for personal gain. or witchcraft in the old terminology, invariably becomes an unsatisfied energy. The fact that we cannot trust life to provide becomes the stumbling block of our own desire. The Buddha solved it by saying "remove desire" ... But the desire to remove desire is a DESIRE of itself! When we PRAY, HOPE or WISH to get something we are using the spiritual forces to get a personal gain. The practice WORKS in the short term, and we DO get what we want. This old bogeyman of spirituality is called "manipulation" and for many it has become their status quo ... Manipulation, or the subtle art of Lying the Truth, becomes the MO of the person's life practice. It is stamped all over them like a hallmark in the personal, familial, and racial psyche. But all things in life GROW. The seeds of manipulation grow to a need to dominate, a need to control, and finally in all good time this morphs into the warped guilt and the shadows that drive our actions Quite simply... The more you get, the more you want. No one EVER gets gratification quickly enough for our urges and needs, and it twists inside us. This is where we extend from a natural state of "want" to the extended state of "need". This is where the problems start and we cross boundaries we should not, and we open Pandora's Box.. Right in the early stages, even as a baby, where a person may be feeling they are not being "fed" (physically, emotionally or mentally) in some way, they calcify the natural doorways of want into a process of need... Because we are UNABLE to walk through the archway of these wants to get to our ideal or our dream, we start trying to walk AROUND the archway. We try to manipulate life to get what we want, and It never works as well as we hope. In the long run it flips into itself and the need for the "want" becomes the Need of itself. We then place another barrier between natural wants, and our created Needs, because the struggle to "get" sets up an opposing Fear Cycle of Loss and Lessening. There is a Law at work here, the Law of Plenty: Much Gathers More. It always works hand in hand with the Law of Loss: Less Gathers Loss. (Which begs another dialogue on what is "enough") Most of us are spiraling into Patterns of Loss and as a result we begin to circle like vultures around the Point of Desire. Rather than receiving the natural gifts of life and, moment by moment, shifting into greater BEING, we start picking the moment to pieces, looking for the need to be fulfilled before the moment is complete. This diminishes the value of the Moment, and the process of Natural Freedom. If you can understand these words, you are already well on the path to your deepest freedom and awareness. The above conditions mean that the natural energy of want that exists inside us can no longer express itself in a an easy flow. We become augmented with a stiff, awkward fear process. As the years pass, this calcifies into "Magnetic Ridges" in the aura, and these ridges align life along certain specific paths we feel we "must" walk. EG: I 'must" go to Church on Sunday ... This is a common want for community and spiritual growth that has become a fixed Need. In old farming communities, Church meant the only social gathering of the week. It was also a time to reflect, relax, and to gather the thoughts for the coming week. People WANTED this, but combined with such things as the Fear of Damnation or the Fear of becoming a Social Outcast, families ENFORCED this meeting each week on each other. It became a "Must" rather than a natural Wish. You can change anything, any condition or belief inside you, at any time you choose, but the truth is that your fears (and the fears of those around you) will seek to stop you from doing so. In seeking an answer to the want that has turned into a need, the individual then tends to "substitute" the natural want.
In each case it starts a spiral where we end up spinning around some point of substituted desire. This is a "Need Signature" This "need signature" then becomes incorporated into the natural "Want Arch" of energy that is the Mudra, or opening. The soft and gentle "We beseech thee oh Lord" turns into "God, I need a new car"... And when it doesn't arrive we can no longer trust that God will provide, so we become aggressive in our Money Seeking. We start realizing that things are not working out regarding our wishes for more, so we need to go from the attitude of "Survive" to "Strive" if we want to change things. We enter a life of PUSH, rather than a Life of PULL. The rule here is: Man pushes, God Pulls. Did you know the singular most striking discovery Leonardo Da Vinci made about the human body is that Muscles only PULL. The nature of the God Force within is to "pull" what we want towards us. If you could only understand this, you have learned all you need to survive. Our FEARS pull to us what we fear. Our HATES pull what we hate towards us. Every thing we experience is something we have PULLED towards us in some way. What we then do about it is a matter of choice. Every condition we experience is because there is an opening for that experience to come about. This is the simple meaning of the old saying "All we ever see is our own consciousness" (And might I say, in lieu of this, how wonderful you look today? <G>). And we need to remember that the Mind Locks can be GOOD patterns, like clean habits, and kind speech ... All are doorways to inner places and experiences. But to truly understand Mudra is to go beyond the patterns of want and needs, and to move into a state of Becoming. We can move from the Human to the Divine in the moment we drop our needs and conditions (Habits, etc.) That is truly as simple as it is. However, for most of us, this is hardly a reality that we share... Most of us suffer pain and ignorance and unfulfilled dreams. That's how we are as Humans. Let me ask you, however: "Are you a Human wearing a Divine Truth, or a Divine Truth wearing a Human?" Once we choose what we are, we either put ourselves in the pilot seat of change, or stay the passenger on the train of Fate. The truth is we are generally full of negative patterns and are reacting to life with a fear based reality, a reality based on LACK. It is where we go from this point that counts. We all have our needs, and generally speaking when these are not fulfilled, we tend to become either emotionally explosive or introverted. And the LACK becomes a LOCK ... At this point, what we LACK becomes a fixed LOCK. We dance around substituting what we want with alternatives that never satisfy and, like Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, our heart is going around singing "I can't get no satisfaction" What severs this whole process of fear based realities is simply the act of Letting Go. Easily said, but not so easily done. We need to find a higher viewpoint to want to reach a higher state... We have to see the mountain to know we might want to climb it. What gets us off our butts to climb a mountain? We need a trust and a commitment to a greater purpose, but few people seem to hold any purpose greater than their own problems. This is why Service IS its own Reward. Service leads us to a position of purpose, which leads us to a position of fulfillment, which leads us to our natural wants, which leads us to this moment, where we find ourselves, and then we are finally in a position to discover the natural state of God in all.
